Anomalous energy loss distributions of alpha particles in heavily implanted thin aluminium films

Anomalous energy loss distributions of ^l48Gd alpha particles have been observed in heavily implanted thin aluminium films. It is surmised that thin film micro-wrinkling is responsible for the observed effect and that the novel technique of energy loss spectral analysis (ELSA) should be useful in studies of the topography of such films.     

Local defect structures and EPR studies on (FeO6)9− and (FeO4)5− clusters in YGG: Fe3+ system

The octahedral (FeO₆)^9? and tetrahedral (FeO₄)^5? clusters in yttrium gallium garnet (YGG): Fe³⁺ system are investigated based on the 252 × 252 complete energy matrices for d⁵ configuration ions in trigonal and tetragonal ligand fields, moreover, the EPR and optical spectra are made unified calculation. The results indicate that the defect structures around Fe³⁺ centres display expansion effects at different temperatures 4.2 and 295 K, and which are close to those in YIG garnet, respectively. Simultaneously, the defect structure parameters for Fe³⁺ centres in YGG are determined, and the relationship between the defect structure and the temperature has been discussed.     

Practical and Scalable Synthesis of Ethyl (R)-Piperidine-3-acetate

A practical and scalable synthesis of ethyl (R)-piperidine-3-acetate was achieved from commercially available 3-pyridylacetic acid in 76% overall yield. The practical synthesis was demonstrated on 100-g scale. One-pot reductive N-ethylation of the pyridinium salt with acetonitrile gave an N-ethyl piperidine derivative.     

A green route for the synthesis of 2-substituted benzoxazole derivatives catalyzed by Al-exchanged K10 clay

A new, simple, and efficient protocol is developed for the synthesis of 2-substituted benzoxazole derivatives through N–C–O bond formation using Al³⁺-exchanged K10 clay (Al³⁺-K10) as catalyst. A wide range of benzoxazole derivatives are synthesized in high yields without affecting many functional groups. Hot filtration experiments showed the absence of metal leaching and catalyst can be reused for five times with only a slight decrease in yield.     

Platanus acerifolia’s buds: additional non-polar metabolites and structure revision of two previous dihydrochalcone-like metabolites

In addition to the methylated and prenylated flavonoids previously reported from Platanus acerifolia, the multistep chromatographic processing of the n-hexane extract of the fresh unripe buds resulted in the isolation of 11 metabolites. Besides six common wax constituents, the n-hexane portion led to the isolation of four gem-dimethylpyrano flavanones. They corresponded to two pairs of angular and linear isomers derived only from pinocembrin (5,7-dihydroxyflavanone). Additionally, a novel β-decadione was split into the major keto-enol tautomer as shown by the detailed NMR and EIMS analyses. Moreover, the structures of grenoblone and 4-hydroxygrenoblone, two previously reported dihydrochalcone-like metabolites, were revised according to the EIMS spectra.     

Studies on the Synthesis of Indothiazinone and Its Derivatives via Direct 3-Acylation of Indole

Indothiazinone is a natural 3-acylindole alkaloid, isolated from a culture of myxobacterial strain. It was found to possess antibacterial activity against yeast and filamentous fungi. Indothiazinone is also structurally related with a mammalian endogenous aryl hydrocarbon receptor ligand, (2-(1′H-indole-3′-carbonyl)thiazol-4-carboxylic acid methyl ester (ITE). In this article, the synthesis of indothiazinone has been disclosed for the first time. Key feature includes direct and selective 3-acylation of indole in the presence of Lewis acid. In addition, an efficient preparation of N-substituted indothiazinone derivatives has been demonstrated.     

Dynamics of the Up-Conversion Emission in Holmium Doped Zblan Fiber

The dynamics of up-conversion, green emission under excitation at different infra-red wavelength in Ho^3? doped ZBLAN fiber is reported. Under infrared, 890 nm quasi cw pumping the complicated temporal behavior of the up-conversion signal is strongly influenced by the intermediate ⁵I₅ state cross relaxation. The mechanisms of the observed up-conversion processes are proposed and the time evolution of the ⁵S₂ population is described by the rate equation model. Parameters of the model are determined and numerical simulations of the excited state dynamics are performed.
